DescriptionA calendar of prisoners held at the House of Correction at Richmond before trial at the Quarter Sessions to be held by adjournment at Richmond on 18 January 1788. Includes:

- a rogue and vagabond, appearing or pretending to be dumb, found begging in the parish of Easby, committed on 6 September 1784 and afterwards found to be an idiot

- Edward Whinfield of Barnard Castle in county Durham labourer, committed on 20 September 1787 on the oath of Margret Palmer of the township of Eryhome for having got her with child, and refusing to give any security to indemnify the township to Robert Hall one of the overseers of the township

- John Thompson of Gilling, committed on 24 November 1787 charged on the oath of John Hickson of the township of Hackforth yeoman with having stolen four geese value 10d from near his dwelling house on 23 November 1787

- John Haw the elder of Snape cooper, committed on 24 November 1787 charged on the oath of Francis Chambers of Snape yeoman on suspicion of stealing a quantity of hay

- Thomas Carter of Crakehall farmer, committed on 22 December 1787 charged on the oath of William Squires of Burrill husbandman with stealing some peas from the Revd Mr Clarke rector of Bedale on 12 September 1787. The peas were part of the tithe of a field of peas called Crossways in the township of Crakehall belonging to Mr Clarke

- John Thackray of Aiskew labourer, committed on 1 January 1788 and charged on the oath of Thomas Maxwell tithingman of the Revd Mr Clarke rector of Bedale with stealing about half a peck of barley belonging to the rector, and taken from his barn on 12 December 1787

- Dorothy Barker wife of James Barker of Constable Burton, committed on 7 December 1787, charged on the oath of George Theakston overseer of the poor of Constable Burton with repeatedly refusing to work when required, especially refusing to spin when the tools and materials were found for her, and for running away from her family

- Ann Sparrow of Akebar, committed on 22 December 1787 on the oath of Leonard Petch the younger of Akebar for stealing three or four fence rails from the fence of Francis Forster of Akebar farmer from the ings called Clarkson Ings on 15 December 1787. To remain in the House of Correction for one month

- John Kitchin of Dalton collier, committed on 9 January 1788 for receiving or stealing large quantities of underwood called hazels, the property of Sheldon Craddock esquire and taken from his woods at Hartforth on Friday night or Saturday morning on 21 or 22 December 1787. To remain in the House of Correction for one month and to be whipped once

- George Shaw of Hartforth, committed on 12 January 1788 on the oath of Ralph Cummins servant to Sheldon Craddock esquire of Hartforth for maliciously cutting down underwood called hazels. To remain in the House of Correction for one month and to be whipped once privately
