FAQs
Answers
Are all of your collections in the catalogue?
No, not yet. While we are continually adding descriptions of collections to the online catalogue, some of our collections are not yet online and full catalogues are only available in the record office as a paper list. Other collections are only partially listed in our online catalogue. Contact us if you can’t find what you are looking for in the online catalogue as we will be able to advise you further.
How do I view a document I have found?
Make a note of the document reference number and then contact us to book an appointment to view the document in our searchroom.
Can I get a copy of a document?
We offer copies of most of the documents that we hold. However, factors such as the condition of the original item or restrictions on copyright mean that we are not able to provide copies of some documents. Single copies are provided on the understanding that they are for personal use only. Click here for information on copying services and fees.
Are your collections digitised and available online?
Owing to the costs involved in digitising documents and the extent of our holdings, the majority of our collections are not available to view online. You will need to book an appointment with us to view documents in our searchroom. However, you can find some images of items in our collections in the Image Gallery and What’s New sections of this catalogue. You can also view images of some of our documents in our online shop and our parish registers and schools admissions registers have been digitised and are available to view on Findmypast.
Can I contribute to the catalogue?
We are happy to receive information from users about a particular collection, or information on any errors. Please contact us with your contribution.
