TitleExamination of James Lamb
DescriptionExamination of James Lamb, a vagabond and deserter from the Middlesex Militia. He was born at Hinckley in Leicestershire and is about 28 years of age. He was apprenticed to his father as a wool comber at Linlithgow in Scotland. After a year he ran away and enlisted in the 26th Regiment of Foot at Tynemouth Barracks. He deserted three times and received 1,000 lashes at the Barracks as a punishment, but then was discharged. Immediately afterwards, he went as a sailor to Greenland, and on his return he enlisted on 24 August 1787 into the Middlesex Militia, and was sworn in at Uxbridge to serve in the militia for five years. He is now at Appleton Wiske gathering rags and selling pins, needles etc as a petty chapman without a licence
