Description | Bill of indictment of Richard Champney formerly of Darlington in county Durham publican and butcher and late of New Malton butcher and a prisoner in the gaol of York Castle for perjury
On 22 October 1835 at a court held at the Castle of York by one of the Commissioners for Insolvent Debtors, a petition was heard from Richard Champney applying for his discharge. Champney took an oath as to the truth of the contents of the petition and its schedule. The balance sheet of the schedule is given in the bill of indictment, but Champney did not pay £13 to John Greenwell of Thornton Hall near Darlington creditor number eight on 6 January 1834, nor did he pay £24 to William Alderson of North Cowton near Darlington farmer on 25 January 1834
