Sarah Metcalfe of the township of High and Low Ellington gave birth to a bastard son on 27 May 1840 in the township of Leyburn, and the child became chargeable to the township of High and Low Ellington in Leyburn Union in the division of Hang East. At the Petty Sessions held at Bedale on 13 October 1840, Hutchinson, as putative father, was ordered to reimburse the Guardians of the Leyburn Union but has failed to do so from the time of the making of the order to 10 August 1841
