Pickard had previously been convicted of felony at the Quarter Sessions for the East Riding held at Beverley on 17 October 1848; and at York on 6 December 1849 and again at York on 9 January 1851

With certificate of conviction at the city of York on 6 December 1849 of David Pickard being under 14 years of age for stealing ten pounds weight of figs, the property of Caleb Fletcher and Christopher Scarr, at the parish of St John Micklegate in the city of York on 29 November 1849. Pickard was sentenced to hard labour at the House of Correction at York for two months and to be once privately whipped. Certificate undated
With certificate of conviction at the city of York on 9 January 1851 of David Pickard being under 14 years of age for stealing two silver coins called sixpences, the property of Thomas Agar, at the parish of St Dennis in the city of York on 9 January 1851. Pickard was sentenced to hard labour at the House of Correction at York for two months and to be once privately whipped. Certificate undated
With certificate of conviction at the Quarter Sessions for the East Riding held at Beverley on 17 October 1848 of David Pickard late of the township of Gate Fulford in the East Riding labourer for stealing 36 copper coins called pennies value 1d each, one silver coin called a shilling value 1s, and two silver coins called sixpences value 6d each, the property of Jane Hardcastle. Pickard was sentenced to hard labour at the House of Correction at Beverley for four calendar months. Certificate dated 2 April 1853 |
