Description | Draft of a case relating to the indictment of John Taylor at the Easter Sessions 1869 for a misdemeanour. The jury returned a verdict of guilty of an assault. Counsel for the prisoner contended that Taylor could not be convicted of a common assault on that indictment and therefore the verdict amounted to an acquittal. The court postponed judgement and reserved the question of law for the Justices in the Exchequer. Taylor was bailed to appear at the next Sessions to receive the judgement |
