With certificate of conviction at the Quarter Sessions for county Durham held at Durham on 3 April 1882 of John Sherwood for obtaining from Arthur Garbutt at Stockton on 10 March 1882 seven yards of cloth and trimmings, the property of David Garbutt, by falsely pretending to Arthur Garbutt that he (Sherwood) had been sent by Thomas Robinson a butcher in the High Street at Stockton for cloth for one suit, and that he had a written order addressed to David Garbutt for the goods. Sherwood was sentenced to hard labour at the prison at Durham for four calendar months. Certificate dated 14 March 1883 |
