DescriptionBill of indictment of Robert Foster Barnes and Robert Ruddock for obtaining 5s from George Thomas Goodrick, a collector of rents for William Barclay Peat and John Vernon Cooper liquidators of the Middlesbrough, Redcar, Saltburn by the Sea and Cleveland District Permanent Benefit Building Society. Barnes and Ruddock had been employed as bailiffs to distrain the goods of John McGann tenant of the Society who owed rent on his house at 21 Raby Street, Middlesbrough. Barnes and Ruddock falsely pretended to Goodrick that they had got McGann out of the house, and produced a key, claiming it to be the key of the house, and also claimed to have employed two policemen to assist them, giving them 1s each
