DescriptionSettlement examination of James Reed a vagrant. At about Michaelmas last, he left Scotland to travel to Newcastle, and from there to York through Durham via Darlington, Northallerton and other towns. From York he was returning to Scotland when he was apprehended at Marske in Cleveland. He had travelled from York through Malton, Scarborough and Whitby and other towns on or near the coast. During this time, he maintained himself for five or six years by selling godly and other small books. Before then, he had been a weaver in Glasgow, but could not continue because of lameness and infirmities
