- order dated 3 November 1796 to William Clayton keeper of the Gaol at the Castle of York to receive Thomas Backhouse into custody until he comes to answer to Ann Pallisser Haynes in a plea of trespass and for a bill of £250
- oath of Thomas Backhouse that on 1 January 1797 he was a prisoner in the Gaol at the Castle of York at the suit of Ann Palliser Haynes widow. He encloses a schedule of all his goods, excepting only wearing apparel and bedding for himself and his family, his working tools, and less than £5 in money, which together do not exceed the value of £30
- schedule dated 18 October 1797 of Thomas Backhouse's real and personal estate, comprising only a sea chest, bed, bedding and quadrant. He is owed for his share in the American ship "Harmony", taken by the "Argonaut" under Captain Bell, and carried into New Providence in the Bahamas in January 1795, laden with French property. He is also owed part of his half-pay from the Government by Messrs Marsh and Creed Navy agents in London |
