DescriptionNotice from John Watkinson to J. Berry esquire Collector of Excise for Whitby relating to the loss of 188 bushels of refined salt shipped at Hull on 5 December 1799 on board the sloop Friendship (Nathaniel Burstall master) by Thomas Nesbitt. On 6 December George Hopwood shipped 179 bushels of refined salt on board the sloop Friendship (Nathaniel Burstall master), the salt having been made by Twiss, Morris and Co of Wheelock Saltworks near Sandbach in Cheshire makers and refiners, and consigned to Messrs Skelton and Paylor, Peter Marshall, Isabella White and William Clarkson all of Scarborough and by the aforesaid accident 153 bushels of salt were lost

The matter will be determined at the Quarter Sessions to be held at New Malton on 14 January 1800
