From 13 January 1801 the highway has been in disrepair in the township of Hornby from a brook called Staindale otherwise Staind Hill which divides the townships of Girsby and Hornby southward to the highway from Great Smeaton to Yarm, being 600 yards in length and 7 yards in breadth
