TitleRequest to discharge George Nicholson from the House of Correction
DescriptionRequest to discharge George Nicholson of Welburn millwright, a prisoner charged on the oath of Thomas Streets gamekeeper to the Earl of Carlisle and committed to the House of Correction for want of sureties. Reports the enmity between Nicholson and Streets, and that a man called Slater under a commitment to York Castle for poaching and pointing a gun at other gamekeepers is being kept to impeach others on a promise of being released and given money. Another man, Peter Pearson, had been told that he would be taken back into Lord Carlisle's service if he impeached Nicholson. None of Nicholson's neighbours would become bound for him, for fear of the consequences from Lord Carlisle; but Nicholson's brother in law, a master cordwainer, and his son aged 30 years, are both willing to be bound
