DescriptionExamination of Catherine Roman [Romain] widow found begging in ?Northallerton and now confined in the House of Correction there. She was born at Jedburgh in Scotland and about 27 years ago she married William Roman [Romain] of the parish of West Church, Edinburgh, schoolmaster. Her husband occupied a house in the New Town, Edinburgh, at a rent of £10 a year. They remained there for 9 years and then her husband died. She went to live at London and kept house for her brother but received no wages. She has not done anything to gain a settlement elsewhere
