TitlePetition relating to the Union Society of Richmond
DescriptionPetition to the Justices from members of the Union Society of Richmond against new rules proposed by some members of the Society at their annual meeting in July last. These new rules were not understood by half of the members and were proposed without the knowledge of many absent members and without the approval of any Justices. The president and stewards struck members off the sick list even though some were nearly totally disabled by paralytic and other complaints, and allowed them no benefit. Such infringement of their Articles will set a precedent and will lead to the total abolition of the Society, as no-one will join if no allowance will be paid to any except such as are confined to their bed or their room by sickness, or are over 70 years old or blind. The Justices are petitioned to order that a committee be chosen to revise the original Articles which could then be confirmed by the Justices
