DescriptionExamination dated 5 July 1816 of Edward Hall of Melsonby shoemaker relating to the settlement of his granddaughter Elizabeth Hall. She was born at Mickleton, where Edward's son had his settlement. At the age of three or four years, Elizabeth came to live with him and his wife at the age of three or four years, and stayed there until the last eight or nine months. Edward never hired Elizabeth or paid her any wages, although he maintained her with food and clothing. His wife, who has been dead seven or eight years, made no agreement with Elizabeth either. Endorsed with a motion for the court to quash the removal order of Elizabeth Hall at the instant of the removants, who are not able to support the order, and have determined to abandon it
