Description | Paper to move at the Easter Sessions 1817 that two recognizances should be discharged. Christopher Burneston bailiff to Charles Duncombe esquire was bound by recognizance to prosecute John Potter and William Smith for poaching. Potter and Smith are now in the House of Correction at Northallerton. John Wilks, keeper to Mr Duncombe, was bound over to give evidence. Mr Duncombe has written declining to prosecute the men and Mr Mitchelson has written to Mr Hill on the subject, and the letter is annexed
Letter dated 14 April 1817 from Thomas Mitchelson at Pickering to Richard Hill esquire at Mr Hirst's at Northallerton. Mr Duncombe's bailiff had written to Mitchelson asking what to do about two poachers committed to the House of Correction at Northallerton. Mitchelson wrote to Duncombe, but his reply leads him to believe that Duncombe does not intend to prosecute. It is unfortunate for Burliston the bailiff as his wife is now dead in their house. They should spare the old man a journey at a time when it would be unpleasant to his feelings to have to leave home and excuse his attendance at Quarter Sessions. Mr Hill is asked to explain things to the chairman if necessary |
