Description | Petition made by John Howard, William Hodgson and Peter Walker to the chairman of the Court at Northallerton, asking for their release. They had been found guilty at the Quarter Sessions held in October 1817 of helping William Binks and others escape from the House of Correction. Binks and two others had been transported for escaping, but have "received the Prince Regent's royal mercy" and have arrived home. The petitioners were sentenced to one year's imprisonment, but the only evidence against them was given by a person of bad character |
