Paper to move at the January Sessions 1835 for an order against James Beadnell for the maintenance of the bastard son of Elizabeth Blakelock of the township of Stokesley singlewoman, born on 30 November 1834
Stephen Ainsley one of the overseers of the poor of Stokesley will prove that money was paid to the wife of Farrow Milbourn of Stokesley, in whose house the child was born, and that Beadnell did not dispute that he was father of the child
Elizabeth Blakelock the mother of the child will prove that she is unable to support it
John Harper of Yarm shoemaker is half-cousin to Elizabeth Blakelock. He will prove that on 19 September 1834, when he heard that Elizabeth had been dismissed from her job because of her situation, he went to Stokesley with one of her brothers to ask Beadnell if he intended to marry her. Beadnell said he could not marry her as he had been on tramp for six months and work was very scarce. Even when he was offered money to purchase necessary things, Beadnell refused to get married, but would not allege anything against Elizabeth |
