TitleBrief relating to an appeal against the poor rate of Bellerby
DescriptionBrief for the respondents in the case at the Christmas Sessions [1835]between Mrs Dorothy Wilkinson (appellant) and the churchwardens etc of Bellerby (respondents) relating to the payment of rates. On the enclosure of two common stinted pastures and a moor or common in the manor of Bellerby, property was allotted to John Hutton esquire of Marske as lord of the manor. When he died, property in Bellerby was left to his son Timothy Hutton esquire of Clifton Castle, who is Mrs Wilkinson's landlord. Mrs Wilkinson has paid rates to Walburn for 40 years, as part of the land is in Walburn Liberty, and she also occupies a farm in Walburn belonging to Mr Hutton
