Notice dated 30 September 1835 given by the overseers of the township of Osmotherley to George Todd now or late of Osmotherley stonemason. They intend to apply at the next Quarter Sessions for an order for Todd to reimburse the township for the maintenance of the bastard son of Mary Hewison singlewoman, born on 21 July 1835, and chargeable to the township from 29 September 1835

Case for the Michaelmas Sessions 1835 for the churchwardens and overseers of the poor of the township of Osmotherley to apply for an order against George Todd for the maintenance of the bastard son of Mary Hewison of Osmotherley singlewoman, born on 21 July 1835. Todd previously lived at Osmotherley but is presently employed as a stonemason at Brough Hall. Hewison was previously in the service of Mr Wetherell of Walk Mill in the township of Osmotherley for two years prior to May Day 1835, when she left his service. Todd was generally living at Osmotherley, except for occasional absences when working at his trade, until Monday 2 March 1835, being the Monday before Ash Wednesday, called Collop Monday, when he went to Brompton on Swale and then to Brough Hall. Todd had courted Hewison before she went into Mr Wetherell's service and for most of the time that she was there. They quarrelled once, but made friends again in a little over a month. Hewison slept with Todd more than once and she thinks the child was conceived about six weeks before Martinmas 1834. Ellen Hewison, Mary's sister, says that Todd acknowledged himself to be the father and said he would marry Mary in a year or two's time when he had a situation
