DescriptionOrder dated 12 June 1839 for the removal of John Raine aged 7 years and Jane Raine aged 5 years, the children of Francis Raine who has left Northallerton and whose present whereabouts is unknown, from the township of Northallerton to the township of Pickhill with Roxby

Notice dated 12 June 1839 given by William Welbank, Thomas Hamilton and Robert Hare, churchwardens of the township of Northallerton, and Mann Dowson Todd and Thomas Lunn overseers of the poor of the township of Northallerton, that John Raine and Jane Raine, children of Francis Raine, have become chargeable to the township of Northallerton and that an order has been obtained for their removal to the township of Pickhill with Roxby. Includes depositions of Thomas Bradley of the township of Northallerton assistant overseer of the poor; and William Raine of the township of Thornton le Beans farmer relating to the last legal settlement of his son Francis. Francis had been hired 16 years ago, when he was aged 14 years, by Robert Dennison of the township of Pickhill farmer as his servant in husbandry but since leaving there, Francis has not gained a settlement elsewhere. Francis married Mary, now deceased, at the parish church of North Otterington about nine years ago and had the two children John and Jane. He has left Northallerton, but his present residence is unknown
