Description | Bill of indictment of William Robinson of Middleton in Teesdale for failure to pay for the maintenance of his bastard daughter
Margaret Coates of the township of Muker singlewoman gave birth to a bastard daughter at the township of Middleton in Teesdale on 14 May 1835. As Coates was unable to provide for its maintenance, the child became chargeable to the township of Muker. At the Quarter Sessions held at Northallerton on 19 October 1835, Robinson, as putative father, was ordered to reimburse the overseers of the poor of Muker but has failed to do so
