Includes: i) settlement examination dated 14 June 1842 of Robert Witty of the township of Ruswarp weaver. He is 59 years old. About 45 years ago, his parents lived in Selby. When he was 16 years old, he was apprenticed for five years to John Twist of Selby sail cloth manufacturer. His father Matthew Witty was a party to the apprenticeship indenture. During his apprenticeship, he slept in Millgate Street in Selby, in his father's house. After two and a half years, he quarrelled with his master and it was agreed to cancel the apprenticeship indenture, which was burnt in his presence. About 20 years ago, as Witty was out of work, he applied to the overseers of Selby for relief and received 1s a day for four days. His settlement was examined by a committee at Selby workhouse, and was found to be in the parish of Selby, and he then received 15s relief. About five years ago he married Ann at Whitby and has two children, Mary Ann aged 18 months and Matthew aged three weeks. He has done nothing to gain a settlement elsewhere, although he is now living with his wife and children in the township of Ruswarp, and chargeable to that township ii) notice of chargeability dated 15 June 1842 given by the overseers of the township of Ruswarp to the overseers of the parish of Selby
