Description | Draft bill of indictment of Peter Wood for obtaining a silver watch from Hannah White by false pretences. On 13 March 1865 a silver watch was pledged at the pawn shop of Christopher Heslop of Middlesbrough. On 4 May 1865 Peter Wood made a false declaration before a J.P. that he had pledged the watch and received a memorandum of doing so which he had since lost. Wood obtained the watch by falsely pretending to Hannah White, Heslop's servant, that he had lost the pawn ticket, whereas in fact, he had transferred the watch to another person |
