TitlePapers relating to a sentence imposed on Richard Collier of Whitby
DescriptionPapers relating to a sentence imposed on Richard Collier, including:

- petition dated March 1867 of ratepayers and inhabitants of the town of Whitby who are acquainted with Richard Collier of Whitby jet worker, who had been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for assaulting John Dearlove. They ask that Collier's sentence should be mitigated, as Dearlove was a brothel keeper who fancied that his wife was too intimate with Collier, and because a stone was thrown at Dearlove by his own wife and not by Collier. The petitioners are well aware of Collier's intemperance, but consider him an honest and well-disposed man. Signed by 61 inhabitants

- letter dated 1 April 1867 from Mary Ann Collier, Richard Collier's mother, at Baxtergate in Whitby, asking the Chairman to use his influence on her behalf
