Description | Draft of a case relating to the indictment of William Canwell and William Dunn at the Easter Sessions 1869 for a misdemeanour. The jury returned a verdict of guilty of a common assault. Counsel for the prisoner contended that Taylor could not be convicted of a common assault on that indictment and therefore the verdict amounted to an acquittal. The court postponed judgement and reserved the question of law for the Justices in the Exchequer. Canwell and Dunn were bailed to appear at the next Sessions to receive the judgement |
