TitlePapers relating to the alteration of Petty Sessional divisions
DescriptionStatement dated 30 December 1869 sent to the Clerk of the Peace by five Justices that the township of Thornaby, Stainton and Ingleby Barwick, which are part of the Petty Sessional division of Yarm, would together form a convenient division for holding Special Sessions

Copy notice dated 24 January 1870 for the alteration of Petty Sessional divisions

Letter dated 26 March 1870 from Joseph Dodds at Stockton on Tees to Thomas T. Trevor. The townships of Stainton and Ingleby Barwick have been alarmed that their county rate will increase if they are separated from Yarm and attached to South Stockton, and so the application will now be confined to Thornaby. He asks about the procedures that are now to be followed

Undated petition of ratepayers and inhabitants of the township of Stainton to the Justices in Quarter Sessions. Stainton was added to Yarm Petty Sessional division in 1857. It is now proposed to form a new division for which Petty Sessions will be held at South Stockton. The petitioners do not want Stainton to be added to this new division as Yarm is better situated to them than is South Stockton. Signed by 23 inhabitants, giving occupations

Undated petition of ratepayers and inhabitants of the township of Ingleby Barwick to the Justices in Quarter Sessions. Ingleby Barwick is part of Yarm Petty Sessional division, but it is now proposed to form a new division for which Petty Sessions will be held at South Stockton. The petitioners do not want Ingleby Barwick to be added to this new division as Yarm is better situated to them than is South Stockton. Signed by 11 inhabitants, giving occupations

Undated memorial to the Justices in Quarter Sessions from the inhabitants of the township and parish of Thornaby that the township of Thornaby comprising the town of South Stockton should become a separate Petty Sessional division rather than being part of the division of Yarm. Signed by members of South Stockton Local Board and other inhabitants, giving occupations
