DescriptionDepositions of John King James of Hull surveyor, George Winn of Askrigg in the parish of Aysgarth gentleman and clerk to the Askrigg District Highway Board, and Nonas Durham of Aysgarth in the parish of Aysgarth district surveyor of the Askrigg District Highway Board relating to the diversion of part of a public footpath in the township of Hawes from the west end of the village of Gayle through fields belonging to Henry Whaley of Hawes esquire into the public highway from Hawes to Ingleton; with related documents, including:

- plan dated October 1874 showing the alteration of the footpath

- request dated 8 October 1874 from Henry Whaley of Hawes esquire to the Highway Board for the district of Askrigg to give notice to the churchwardens of Hawes to assemble the inhabitants of the parish to submit his request to divert a footpath passing through two fields occupied by Richard Dinsdale at the west end of the village of Gayle

- notice dated 16 October 1874 that a vestry meeting of the inhabitants of Hawes will be held on 22 October 1874 for the purpose of submitting Henry Whaley's proposal to divert the footpath

- resolution of the vestry meeting held on 22 October 1874 that Henry Whaley's proposal should be agreed to

- order dated 22 October 1874 made by the chairman of the vestry meeting held on that day that the Highway Board for the District of Askrigg should apply to the Justices to view the footpath to be diverted

- notice dated 31 October 1874 that application will be made to the Justices on 5 January 1875 for an order to divert a public footpath and to substitute a new footpath a little further to the north
