With certificate of conviction at the court of summary jurisdiction for the Petty Sessional division of Hang West held at Leyburn on 20 October 1882 of Henry Halford of Workington in Cumberland labourer for stealing one coat value £1 8s, the property of John Robson of Hawes tailor, at the township of Hawes on 13 October 1882. Halford was sentenced to hard labour at the prison at Northallerton for six weeks. Certificate dated 2 April 1883
