DescriptionBill of indictment of James Thompson alias Knox alias Coverdale for obtaining one night's food and lodging value 1s 6d from George Richardson by falsely pretending that he was a fitter and had obtained work at the steel works at Eston; and for obtaining 3s 7 1/2d by pretending that he expected luggage at the South Bank railway station and needed the money to pay charges due on it

Thompson/Knox/Coverdale had previously been convicted of felony at Durham on 26 June 1876

Endorsed with names of witnesses and "true bill"



With certificate of conviction at the Quarter Sessions for county Durham held at Durham on 26 June 1876 James Thompson was convicted of stealing 7d in money and one coin, the property of Thomas Alderson. Thompson, with a previous conviction, was sentenced to penal servitude for seven years. Certificate dated 17 June 1889
