for exercising and claiming within the villages and parishes between Whitby Strand and Scarborough

the liberties and privileges and franchises of Admiralty jurisdiction on the sea, riverlet and sea water there and coverting to their own use wreck of the sea, flotsam, jetson and lagon and royal fishes and treasure found and cast into the sea
and for holding Courts of Admiralty there etc

To which information Sir Thomas P Hoby answers concerning the manor of Hackness; extending into villages of Hackness, Hackness Dales, Silpho, Harwooddale [Harwood Dale], Harwood, Hingles, Suffield, Everly [Everley], Broxa and Burniston
Long before the information, the Abbot and Convent of Whitby were seised of the manor: Confirmation by King William to Church of Whitby and Serlo the Prior of liberties and free customs
King John and King Henry VI confirmed the same liberties as specified above within manor of Hackness... surrender of the Abbey to King Henry VIII, Descent of manor to King Edward VI, Queen Mary...Queen Elizabeth, Letters Patent of Queen Elizabeth 9 June a r 5 granting the manor to Robert Earl of Leicester and all manorial incidents. Conveyance 20 March 6 Eliz to John Constable; and descent to his son Sir Henry Constable. Conveyance by deed 15 November 30 Eliz to Richard and Thomas Broughton, and conveyance by William and Thomas Broughton 8 February 34 Eliz to Sir John Harrington and Edward Montagu. Conveyance by Harrington and Montagu 21 July 37 Eliz to Bond, Fleming and Smith and their conveyance to Sir Thomas P Hoby and wife 20 June 43 Eliz.
Sir Thomas P Hoby now prays judgement of the Court that he may be allowed the above privileges
