To take command of HMS Imperious, and with HMS Euryalus proceed to and reconnoitre Ajaccia in the Island of Corsica to ascertain the presence or not of enemy frigates recently out of Toulon and if preparation for troop embarkation is being made
Proceed by Straits of Bonifaceo and contact the Consul, Mr Brandi, for intelligence and the situation of Pamoneon the east coast, and thereafter relieve Captain Barrie after receiving from him the instructions under which he acts and carry the same into full effect until further order. Special care to be shown for the Royal Family of Sardinia should France invade that island
HMS Swallow, Alacrity and Espon to remain with and under Captain DundasÂ’ command to watch and give word of enemy action in Corsica. Captain Barrie to proceed to Monte Cristo or Elba where Captain Duncan takes charge for 1 month, then sweep round the Gulf of Genoa reconnoitering the ships building there, and rejoin the Fleet off Sicily or wherever it might be
